Importance of fasting

Bhishma Panchak Vrat Katha is considered to be a very sacred fast associated with the worship of Lord Vishnu. In Sanatan Dharma, this fast is observed for spiritual purification, destruction of sins and to obtain the blessings of God. According to the scriptures, a person who observes this fast with devotion and regularly gets happiness, prosperity and spiritual progress in his life.

It is described in the Puranas that once upon a time a poor Brahmin was living in extreme hardships. He was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. One day a Mahatma told him the importance of this fast and explained the method of observing the fast.

The Brahmin started fasting for Lord Vishnu with devotion and faith. After some time, Lord Vishnu was pleased with his devotion and gave him darshan and blessed him. By the grace of God, all the troubles of his life went away and happiness and prosperity resided in his house.

The story also teaches that with true faith, belief and devotion, Lord Vishnu fulfills all the wishes of the devotees.

Method of worship

• After taking bath in the morning, meditate on Lord Vishnu.
• Take a pledge to fast and light a lamp in front of the picture or idol of Lord Vishnu.
• Offer Tulsi group, flowers, fruits and prasad.
• Read or listen to the Vrat Katha.
• Anta mein bhagavaana vishnu ki aarti kara prasaada vitarana karen.

Result of fasting

It is believed that by reciting Bhishma Panchak Vrat Katha, one gets special blessings of Lord Vishnu. This destroys sins and brings happiness, peace and prosperity in life.
