॥ Shri Vinayak Chaturthi fasting story. 🐘👉

Story begins:

Once Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati were sitting on the banks of river Narmada. Mother Parvati wished that the game of Chaupar should be played to pass the time. There was no umpire to start the game. Then Lord Shiva made an effigy from straws of grass and consecrated it and made it a witness.

The game started and Mother Parvati won three times in a row. But when the judging boy was asked, he mistakenly or biasedly declared Mahadev as the winner. Due to this, Mother Parvati became very angry and she cursed the child to become lame and lie in the mud.

The child apologized and said - "O mother! This has happened out of ignorance on my part, please have mercy on me." Mother Parvati's heart was moved. He said - "Son, snake girls will come here to worship Ganesh. You ask themand fast on Vinayak Chaturthi, this will remove your troubles."

After one year, snake girls came and told the boy the glory of Ganesh Vrat. The child observed Vinayak Chaturthi fast for 21 days with devotion. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Ganesha appeared and asked him to ask for a boon. The child prayed that he might get well and reach Kailash to his parents.

By the grace of Lord Ganesha, the child recovered and reached Kailash. There he told Lord Shiva about this fast. Lord Shiva also observed this fast to regain the lost mother Parvati. Due to the effect of the fast, the anger in Mother Parvati's mind ended and she herself returned to Kailash.
