॥ Sri Vijaya Ekadashi fast story (complete story) 🏹🌊🚩

Dharmaraj Yudhishthir asked Lord Shri Krishna - "O Janardan! What is the name of Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month and what is its method? Please tell in detail."

Lord Shri Krishna said - "O son of Kunti! The name of this Ekadashiis 'Vijaya Ekadashi'. As per its name, it gives victory to man in every difficult situation. Till date I have not told this secret story to anyone, but seeing your curiosity, I tell it in detail."

1. Shri Ram's dilemma and Lakshman's suggestion

In Tretayuga, when Lord Shri Ram got fourteen years of exile, he started living in Panchavati with Mother Sita and Lakshman ji. There the evil Ravana abducted Mother Sita by deceit. In search of Sita ji, Shri Ram reached Rishyamook mountain and befriended Sugriva.

When Shri Ram reached the sea shore with his monkey army to attack Lanka, seeing the bottomless and boiling sea in front, he said to Lakshman ji - "O Sumitranandan! It seems impossible to cross this huge sea. There are terrible aquatic creatures in it and there is no end to its depth. How will we cross this obstacle?"

Lakshman ji said with folded hands - "O Lord! You are almighty, yet you are performing the leela in the form of Maryada Purushottam. At a short distance from here is the ashram of the supreme asceticBakdalabhya Rishi. He is a very old and accomplished man. We should take guidance from him."

2. Divine Guidance of Sage Bakdalabhya

Lord Ram reached the sage's ashram and prostrated before him. The sage recognized Ram ji as soon as he saw him and smilingly asked - "O Raghunandan! For what purpose have you come here?"

Ram ji said humbly - "Rishivar, I want to cross the ocean with my army and conquer Lanka. Please suggest some solution by which this difficult route becomes accessible."

Sage Bakdalabhya said - "O Ram! Observe the fast ofVijaya Ekadashifalling in the Krishna Paksha of Phalgun. This fast is very ancient and fruitful. With its effect, not only will you cross the ocean, but your victory flag will fly all over Lanka."

3. Detailed method of fasting (according to the sage)

The sage told the very subtle method of fasting -

• Rule of Dashami:One day before the fast on Dashami, install a gold, silver, copper or clay pot in a pure place.

• Establishment:Fill the Kalash with pure water and Saptadhya (seven types of grains) and place five leaves of ashoka or mango (Panch Pallava) on it.

• Worship:Install the golden idol of Lord Narayana on the Kalash. On the day of Ekadashi, worship with incense, lamp, naivedya and flowers as per the rituals.

• Jagran:Do kirtan and jagran of God's hymns with devotion throughout the night.

• Donation on Dwadashi:Next day (on Dwadashi), after bathing, donate the pot and the statue to a learned Brahmin.

4. Effect of fasting and victory of Lanka

Lord Shri Ram had full faith in the sage's words and observed a strict fast on Vijaya Ekadashi along with his entire monkey army. Due to the effect of fasting and awakening, Samudra Dev himself appeared and told the solution to provide the path. Nala and Neel built the bridge.

With the power of this fast, the monkey army showed bravery and Shri Ram established religion by killing the arrogant Ravana.

Lord Shri Krishna says - "O Yudhishthir! The person who observes this fast methodically, gets victory in this world and Vaikuntha in the next world. Even just by listening to this story, one gets the same virtue as the Vajpayee Yagya."
