In ancient times, on the banks of river Narmada, there used to rule a very pious and glorious king named King Mandhata. He followed his subjects like a son and was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. Once King Mandhata went to a dense forest and got absorbed in the penance of the Lord.
He sat silently under a tree and controlled his senses. He was meditating on God so much that he was not even aware of his body. During his penance, a wild bear came and started chewing the king's leg. He was in severe pain and did not have any weapon to protect himself.
The king thought, "This is the result of my destiny." He prayed to God in a pitiful voice. O devotee! Protect me.тАЭ
