॥ Story of Shri Tulsi Vivah (Vrinda-Jalandhar) 🌿💍

Story begins:

In ancient times, there was a very powerful demon king named Jalandhar. He was the son of Samudra and was married to a girl named Vrinda. Vrinda was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu and a very devoted woman. Due to the power of Vrinda's Pativrata religion, Jalandhar had become so powerful that no god or demon could defeat it in war.

Jalandhar, intoxicated with his power, attacked heaven and defeated the gods. Frightened, all the gods took refuge in Lord Vishnu and prayed for protection. Lord Vishnu knew that as long as Vrinda's chastity and devotion to her husband were safe, it was impossible to kill Jalandhar.

Here a fierce war broke out between Jalandhar and Lord Shiva. When Jalandhar was going to war, Vrinda started the puja with the resolve of victory and said that she would not give up the puja until her husband returned from the war. Due to the influence of Vrinda's penance, even Mahadev's attacks were not able to do any harm to Jalandhar.

Lord Vishnu came up with a solution for the welfare of the gods. He took the form of Jalandhar and reached the palace of Vrinda. Vrinda was extremely happy considering her husband alive and victorious and she left her worship. As soon as the puja was interrupted, Vrinda's vow to marry was broken and Lord Shiva killed Jalandhar in the battlefield.

When Vrinda realized the truth that the person standing in front of her was Lord Vishnu himself, she became extremely sad and angry. He cursed Lord Vishnu to turn into stone. Lord Vishnu accepted Vrinda's curse and became 'Shaligram' made of stone.

There was an uproar in the world when the creator of the universe turned into stone. On the prayers of the gods and Lakshmi Mata, Vrinda took back her curse and committed sati with the dead body of Jalandhar herself. The plant that emerged from the ashes of Vrinda was named 'Tulsi' by Lord Vishnu and blessed that "You will be dearer to me than Lakshmi. One of my forms will remain in the form of a stone (Shaligram), whose worship will be considered incomplete without Tulsi."

Lord Vishnu also said that "The person who solemnizes the marriage of my Shaligram form with Tulsi on the day of Kartik Shukla Ekadashi, will get the same virtue as Kanyadaan." Since then, the festival of Tulsi Vivah is celebrated every year on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi (Devotthani Ekadashi).
