Santoshi Mata fasting story

There was an old lady. He had seven sons. Six were earners and one was unemployed. The old lady used to cook and serve food to the six sons and feed them with great love, but she used to give whatever was left to the seventh son. He was simple, so he did not say anything.

One day he asked his wife, “Why does mother treat me like this?” The wife said, “You see for yourself.” The next day he started watching secretly. He saw that the mother first serves food to the six sons with respect, then collects the leftover pieces from their discarded utensils and prepares food for them.

Seeing this his heart was filled with sorrow. He decided that now he would go abroad and earn money. When he started leaving, he said to his wife, "I am going abroad. You be patient."

The wife was of very devoted and simple nature. After the departure of her husband, a mountain of sorrow fell upon her. He had to endure contempt at home, had to do a lot of work, and did not even get food on time. She kept praying to God in her mind.

One day she was going on the road. He saw some women fasting for some goddess. He asked them, “Sisters, to which goddess are you fasting?” The women said, “We are observingSantoshi Matafast. This fast is very fruitful. It brings happiness and peace in the house, fulfills desires, and removes sorrows.”

He politely asked, “What is the method of this fast?” The women told, "On Friday, take a bath and wear clean clothes and worship the Mother Goddess. Offer jaggery and gram, listen to the story, and tell your wishes to the Mother. The most important thing in this fast is thatsour food should not be eaten nor should it be fed to anyone."

That woman started the fast of Santoshi Mata from the same day. With devotion and love, she fasts every Friday, offers jaggery and gram, listens to stories and prays to the Mother Goddess.

On the other hand, her husband started working abroad. By the grace of his mother, his luck changed. He got a good job and started earning money. Here the circumstances at home also gradually started improving.

After some time, by the grace of Santoshi Mata, her husband remembered his wife and returned home with the money. The wife was very happy to see him. Both of them thanked the mother and continued the fast.

When the fast was over, the woman decided to perform Udyapan. He prepared to feed eight boys. Everything was being done properly, but her sisters-in-law were jealous. He taught his children to ask for sourness while eating.

When the children sat down to eat, they asked for sour food. The woman said, “Sour will not be given today.” But the children started insisting. Then somehow the money was given to them. Those children bought tamarind with that money and ate it.

Santoshi Mata became unhappy with this, because the rule of fasting was broken. As a result, troubles started coming again in the woman's house. Her husband went out for some work and many problems arose. The woman became very sad and went to the Mata's temple and started crying.

She folded her hands and said, "O mother! I made a mistake. Forgive me. I did not intentionally break the rules." Seeing his true devotion and repentance the mother's heart melted.

Mother appeared to her and said, "Daughter, be patient. Pay attention to the rules of fasting. Fast again with devotion and method, all troubles will go away."

The woman again observed the fast of Santoshi Mata with full devotion. This time he was very careful. On completion of the fast, he performed Udyapan ritually, fed the children and completely avoided sour things.

With the grace of his mother, happiness and prosperity again came to his house. Husband returned safely. Wealth, grains, peace and happiness resided in the house. Everyone accepted the glory of Santoshi Mata.

Whatever man or woman observesSantoshi Mata fastwith devotion, devotion and regularly, his wishes are fulfilled, troubles at home go away, and happiness and peace comes in life.

Say Jai Santoshi Mata.
