It is a matter of ancient times. A woman lived with her family in a city. She was very religious, simple and virtuous. She used to remember God every day and do all the household work with devotion. But with the passage of time the financial condition of his house deteriorated. There was shortage of money in the house, discord started increasing and there was an atmosphere of anxiety in the family.

The woman became very sad due to this situation. He tried many measures, but there was no significant benefit. Still, she did not lose patience and kept praying to Goddess Lakshmi that O Mother, remove poverty from our house and provide happiness and prosperity.

One day on Friday the woman was sitting after taking bath etc. Just then an old woman came to his house. That old lady looked radiant, calm and divine. The woman respected him, gave him a seat and politely asked the reason for his coming.

The old woman said lovingly, "Daughter, I know the reason for your sorrow. If you observe Lakshmi faston Friday with devotion and regularlythen poverty in your house will go away and happiness and prosperity will reside."

Vriddha ne kaha, “shukravaara ke dina praatahkaala uthakara snaana karo, svachchha vastra dharan karo aur ghar ko shuddha evam saapha rakho. Puja sthan mein maata lakshmi ki pratima yaa chitra sthaapita karo. Dhoopa, deepa, pushpa, akshata, roli, phala aur mithaai arpita karo. Maata lakshmi ki katha suno yaa padho, vrata ka sankalpa lo aur poore dina shraddha se vrata rakho. Saayankaala punah maata ki aarti karo aur prasaada baanto.”

The old woman further said, "The woman who observes this fast with devotion, purity and contentment, wealth, grains, good fortune and peace increase in her house. Goddess Lakshmi is pleased with cleanliness, virtue, truth, kindness and contentment."

Saying this the old woman went away. The woman understood that this was no ordinary woman, she had definitely come under the inspiration of Mother Lakshmi.

Agale shukravaara se usane puri shraddha ke saatha lakshmi vrata aaranbha kiya. Vaha niyamapoorvaka ghar ko svachchha rakhati, maata lakshmi ka poojana karati, katha sunati aur aarti karati. Dheere-dheere usake ghar ki sthiti badalane lagi. Parivaara mein shaanti aane lagi, aarthika tangi doora hone lagi aur ghar mein sukha-samriddhi ka aagamana hua.

Within a short time, her husband's work began to progress, food and wealth increased in the house, and love increased among the family members. The woman's faith became even stronger. She kept fasting for Goddess Lakshmi every Friday.

Then other women also started observing this fast with devotion. Those who observed this fast with true heart, cleanliness, devotion and satisfaction, happiness and prosperity started residing in their homes also.
