Story begins:
After the self-immolation of Sati, Lord Shiva went into renunciation and got absorbed in severe penance. On the other hand, Shaktiwas born as 'Parvati'in the house of Himalayaraj and Mother Maina. Narad Muni told Parvatraj that his daughter would be married to Mahadev in person, but for this he would have to perform severe penance.
1. Difficult penance of Mother Parvati
Parvati ji gave up food and water to get Shiva as her husband. For thousands of years he performed penance by eating only Belpatra and finally by drinking air, due to which he got his name'Aparna'. All three worlds started trembling due to his penance. Ultimately Mahadev was pleased and sent the seven sages to test Parvati. Parvati ji remained firm on her loyalty, pleased with which Shiva ji appeared to her and accepted her as his wife.
2. Strange procession of Lord Shiva
The wedding day was fixed. Lord Shiva thought that since he was a recluse, his marriage procession should also be like that. He spread ashes, wrapped a snake around his neck and wore a deer veil. His procession included gods, Gandharvas as well as groups like ghosts, vampires, Dakni-Shakini and Nandi-Bhrungi. Lord Shiva reached the gates of the Himalayas riding on the bull (Nandi).
3. Mata Maina's hesitation and Shiva's divine form
When Mata Maina saw this terrible form of Shiva as her son-in-law, she fainted and refused to give her daughter's hand. Then on the request of the gods, Lord Shiva gave his'Chandrashekhar'Took form. He became as bright as millions of suns, extremely beautiful and adorned with divine ornaments. Seeing this form of his, Himalaya and Maina became blessed.

The marriage of Shiva and Parvati was solemnized with rituals in the presence of Lord Brahma. The gods showered flowers and there was cheering all around. This marriage gave a message to the world that in love, not the external form, but internal faith and penance is important.
