॥ Story of Shri Paush Putrada Ekadashi fast. 🌸🤱
Story begins:
Lord Shri Krishna says to Yudhishthir – O Dharmaraj! The name of Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Paush month is 'Putrada'. Now you listen to its story carefully. In ancient times, a king named Suketuman ruled in a city named Bhadravati. His queen's name was Shaivya.
The king had immense wealth, kingdom and comforts, but he had no children. Because of this the king and queen always remained worried and sad. The king was deeply troubled by the thought that after his death, who would offer Pind Daan to him and his ancestors? Even ancestors and gods are not satisfied without a son. The king considered his kingdom and pleasures all useless.
The king, immersed in this worry, one day silently rode his horse towards the forest. While wandering in the forest, the king saw many animals and birds, but the restlessness in his mind did not go away. By then it was afternoon and the king started feeling thirsty. In search of water he reached a lake. There he saw that ashrams of sages were built on the banks of the lake and many sages were reciting the Vedas.
The king got down from the horse and saluted the sages. The sages were pleased and said to the king - "O king! We are happy with you, for what purpose have you come here? Tell me your wish." The king folded his hands and asked, “Maharaj, who are you and why have you gathered here?”
The sages replied - "O King! We are Vishvedev and today is 'Putrada Ekadashi'. The person who fasts on this day is blessed with a good child. We have come here to take bath in this lake." The king requested - "O sage! I do not have any child, due to which I am extremely sad. If you are pleased with me, then please bless me with the birth of a son."
The sages said - "O King! Today is Putrada Ekadashi. You fast on this Ekadashi as per the rituals. By the grace of Lord Shri Hari, you will definitely get the gem of a son." Following the words of the sages, the king observed a complete fast on Ekadashi at the same place and broke Dwadashi the next day.
After some time, due to the effect of fasting and the blessings of the sages, Queen Shaivya conceived and in time gave birth to a brilliant son. That son later became a very brave, successful and people-protecting king. Therefore, the person who reads or listens to this story ultimately attains heaven.
