॥ Sri Papamochani Ekadashi fast story (complete story) ॥ 🌿🌕

Dharmaraja Yudhishthir said - "O Janardan!You satisfied my heart by telling me the importance of the Ekadashis of Phalgun month. Now please tell me about the Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month. What is the name of this Ekadashi,What is its method and what is the result of it?"

Lord Shri Krishna replied - "O Yudhishthir!This question was asked by King Mandhata to sage Lomesh in ancient times. The story that Lomesh Rishi narrated to him,is what I am narrating to you in detail. Listen carefully."

1. The harsh penance of the brilliant sage in the Chaitrarath forest

In ancient times, there was a very beautiful and divine forest named 'Chaitrarath'. In this forest, Gandharva girls,Apsaras and Indradev himself used to roam. In this forest, the brilliant son of Maharishi Chyavanand the brilliant sagewere engrossed in severe penance. He was very young,He was a devotee of Lord Shiva and all the three worlds were trembling with his power.

To break the penance of the wise sage, Kamadeva created an atmosphere of spring.Arrival of Manjughosha and Kamadeva's attackAs soon as Manjughosha reached the sage's ashram, Kamadeva started playing melodious music and dancing charmingly. Seeing the right opportunity, Kamadeva attacked the wise sage with his five arrows (hypnosis,

stambhan etc.).

मंजुघोषा अप्सरा ने मेधावी ऋषि के आश्रम के पास पहुँचकर अपनी वीणा पर मधुर संगीत बजाना और मनमोहक नृत्य करना शुरू कर दिया। कामदेव ने भी सही अवसर देखकर मेधावी ऋषि पर अपने पाँचों बाणों (संमोहन, स्तंभन आदि) से प्रहार कर दिया।

ऋषि मेधावी ने जैसे ही मंजुघोषा को देखा,Under the influence of Kamadeva they became fascinated by her beauty. They forgot their meditation,their worship of Shiva and their celibacy. His restraint broke and he got trapped in the love trap of that Apsara.

3. For 57 years, he indulged in pleasures and indulgences with the brilliant sage Manjughosa

. Due to being under the influence of lust, he had no knowledge of day and night,morning and evening. He forgot that he was an ascetic.

Thus,he spentfifty-seven (57) yearswhile doing Raman with Manjughosa. One day,Manjughosa felt that he should return to heaven. He asked the sage for permission to go—"O Rishivar!Now it has been a long time for me,please allow me to go to heaven."

Sage Medhavi,who was still under hypnosis,said, "O beautiful lady!You have just come,stay for more tonight,go away tomorrow." The sage felt that only a short time had passed.

4. Realization of the genius and the terrible curse

Manjughosha said smilingly - "Rishivar!You are delusional. Fifty-seven years have passed since we both lived together."

As soon as Apsara heard these words, the hypnosis of the brilliant sage broke. As soon as he calculated the time,he realized his terrible mistake. His penance of thousands of years had turned to dust. They understood that all this was a trick of Indra and Kamadeva.

In anger, fire started coming out from the body of the brilliant sage. He raised his finger towards Manjughosha and gave a terrible curse - "O murderer!You have destroyed everything of mine. You have taken away my penance. Go,you become a Pishachini (righteous/demon) this very moment."

5. Manjughosha's request and solution to get rid of curse

As soon as the sage cursed, Manju Ghosha's body like Kanchan became black and scary. She became a terrible vampire. She fell at the feet of the sage and started crying and asking for forgiveness - "O sage!Have mercy on me. I only followed the orders of Lord Indra. Please tell me some solution to get rid of this curse."

The sage's anger subsided after hearing Manjughosha's plea and seeing her tears. He said - "Although you have done great harm to me,but I will tell you the solution to get rid of the curse. The Ekadashi which falls in the Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month,its nameis 'Papmochani Ekadashi'. It is the destroyer of all sins. You fast with devotion and do vigil on that day,your vampire form will automatically be destroyed."

6. Medhavi's repentance and father Chyavan's advice

After telling the remedy to Apsara, Medhavi Rishi reached his father Maharishi Chyavan burning in the fire of repentance. He told the whole story to his father and said, "Father,I have wasted my penance by indulging in pleasures. I have committed a terrible sin. Please tell me the solution to get rid of this sin."

Seeing the condition of his son, Maharishi Chyavan expressed grief and said - "Son,you have made a big mistake. But do not be disappointed. The power of Lord Vishnu can burn away all sins. You too should fast and worshipis 'Papmochani Ekadashi'properly. This will regain your lost power."

7. Fruit of the fast and attainment of salvation

As per the orders of his father,the brilliant sage observed a strict fast on 'Papmochani Ekadashi'. On the other hand,Manju Ghosha, while living in the form of a vampire, observed the fast and Jagran of this Ekadashi with utmost devotion.

Due to the effect of this great virtuous fast, Manjughosha was freed from the vampire form and again became a very beautiful Apsara with divine form. She returned to heaven.

The brilliant sages also became free from their sins and again became full of penance. His face became radiant again and he again became engrossed in the penance of Lord Shiva.

Lord Shri Krishna says - "O Yudhishthir!The fast of 'Papmochani Ekadashi' is capable of destroying even the most terrible sins like Brahma murder,theft,drinking alcohol. The person who reads or listens to this story with devotion,gets the result of Sahasra Godaan (donation of a thousand cows).
