॥ Shri Rama Ekadashi fast story (complete story) ॥ 🪔👉🕉️

Dharmaraja Yudhishthir asked - "O Janardan! Now please tell me about the Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. What is the name of this Ekadashi and what is the result of doing it?"

Lord Shri Krishna said - "O Yudhishthir! Kartik Krishna Ekadashiis called 'Rama Ekadashi'It is the destroyer of big sins. Its story is related to a very glorious king Muchukunda. Listen carefully."

1. Rule of King Muchukunda and Marriage of Chandrabhaga

In ancient timesthere was a great king named Muchukunda. He was a friend of Indra and Varun and was a true devotee of Vishnu. There was a rule in his kingdom that on the day of Ekadashi, no human being, animal or bird of the kingdom would consume food. Everyone had to observe fast compulsorily.

He had a daughter, whose namewas Chandrabhaga. Chandrabhaga was married to King Chandrasen's sonShobhan. Shobhan was extremely weak by nature and could not bear hunger.

2. Shobhan's religious crisis

Once Shobhan had come to his in-laws' house (King Muchukund's place). At the same time the date of 'Rama Ekadashi' came. Chandrabhaga became extremely worried. She said to her husband, "Master! In my father's kingdom, in my father's kingdom, leave alone eating, no one even consumes water on the day of Ekadashi. Even elephants, horses and bulls do not eat grass on that day. If you eat here, you will be brought into great disgrace."

Shobhan said - "Dear! I am very weak and cannot bear hunger, but to obey your father's orders, I will definitely observe this fast. Whatever is in my destiny, that will happen."

3. Shobhan's death and divine fruits

The day of Ekadashi came. Shobhan kept the fast, but as the days passed, his condition started deteriorating due to hunger and thirst. The sun set and the time for night vigil came, but for Shobhan that night became like a mountain. Even before the sun rose the next morning (Dwadashi), Shobhan died due to hunger and thirst.

King Muchukund performed the last rites of Shobhan. Chandrabhaga was extremely sad, but she continued fasting on Ekadashi while staying at her father's house and started doing charity in the name of her husband.

4. Divine city on Mandarachal mountain

On the other hand, due to the effect of Ekadashi fast, Shobhan got a very grand and divine 'Dev-city' on the peak of Mandarachal mountain after his death. There were palaces of gold, diamonds and jewels and the splendor of nymphs. Shobhan became the king there, but that citywas 'shaky/temporary', because Shobhan had observed that fast without any devotion, only out of compulsion due to public shame.5. Meeting of Somsharma Brahmin and Shobhan

One day a Brahmin named 'Somasharma' from the kingdom of Muchukund reached Mandarachal mountain while on pilgrimage. There he saw Shobhan sitting on the divine throne. Shobhan recognized the Brahmin and asked him about the well-being of his wife Chandrabhaga.

Shobhan said to the Brahmin - "O Vipravar! I have got this glory due to the influence of Ekadashi, but it is 'unstable'. Please tell me some solution by which this city can become stable and permanent."

6. Chandrabhaga's virtuous power and stability of the city

६. चन्द्रभागा की पुण्य शक्ति और नगर की स्थिरता

The Brahmin returned and told the whole story to Chandrabhaga. Chandrabhaga became happy and said - "O Brahmin! You take me there immediately. I have observed the fast of all Ekadashis from my childhood till today with full devotion. I will stabilize that city with the influence of my virtues."

Braahmana chandrabhaaga ko lekara mandaraachala parvata par vaamadeva rishi ke aashrama pahuncha. Rishi ne mantron ke uchchaarana se chandrabhaaga ko divya shakti pradaana ki. Jaba chandrabhaaga apane pati shobhana ke paasa pahunchi, to usane apane jeevanabhara ke ekaadashi vraton ka punya use samarpita kara diya.

Just by the touch of Chandrabhaga's virtues, that divine city became stable and remained unshakable till the time of doomsday. Shobhan and Chandrabhaga assumed divine form and started living happily there.
